Salwar kameez or also called Shalwar Kameez and Shalwar Qameez is a traditional
dress
worn by women in India and Pakistan region also in parts of Afghanistan .
Shalwar is loose trouser like garment with gathers which give it width.
The legs are wide at the top gathered, and narrow at the bottom.
The kameez is like a long shirt or a tunic, chalks / side seams are left open
from waist line
which give it freedom and easiness in movement.
Originally shalwar or salwar was worn with drawstring but these days they are
mostly worn
with elasticized belts but men still prefer it with a draw string.

There are many variations of salwar kameez or shalwar kameez , there are Punjabi salwar
which has heavy gathers and more width and in worn with short kameez normally, there is
another variation called churidar pajama, which is like skin tight pajama and have gathers in
bottoms.
Dupatta is also part of Pakistani Indian shalwar qameez dress , for muslim women
dupatta sometimes
serves alternate to hijab , for hindu or sikh women that is used to cover
the head while in temple or in
presence of elders.
